Whose Is Under the Hat continues the inspiration behind each series I have painted: the early development and transformation of the self. In this series, the hat is a metaphor for identity in both a playful and psychological way. The hat can be used as a costume, allowing us to temporarily play a new part. Many of these paintings express a psychological identity open to interpretation. Imagery combined with the hat, becomes a symbol of who this person is or wishes to become. The identity of the head under the hat changes as the viewer brings a personal narrative to each painting.
